More about Who Emigrated

Here is a new chart with who emigrated, who stayed in Norway and who was born in the US. I have tried to add spouses who emigrated when I have the exact information and dates. Remember all of these people emigrated between 1854 to 1874, a 20 year period.

Chart
The chart in this blog entry below does not seem to enlarge well, so I am going to put a link to this chart here ==CLICK HERE==, so that you can also grab it and enlarge it. I know viewing this chart from the blog will be hard, so I recommend clicking this link. You can then view the chart and read the text side by side.

This is an interesting kind of chart, because the program always makes it sideways.
How to understand the color codes:

Pink
--The first people mentioned are the ancestors of all the following people=We start with Endre Hansen, Lee, Nissestad and Kari Vikingsdatter, Mörkve, who are the mother and father or our Iver Endreson Nistad (Iver Vangsness) listed below. The come first and are in PINK.

Orange
--Those in orange are their children.

Yellow
--Those in yellow, their children's children and...

Green
--Those in green are the children of the children's children.

I think you can get the idea. I do not have complete information about the wives of some of our early relatives. They very well could have emigrated as well, I just do not know....

If you look closely at the chart, you can figure out who stayed in Norway and then those who were born in the US.

We start with Endre Hansen, Lee, Nissestad and Kari Vikingsdatter, Mörkve, who are the mother and father or our Iver Endreson Nistad (Iver Vangsness) listed below. The come first and are in PINK.

Interesting to note that the last child, Ole Endreson, born 1823 did NOT emigrate nor did any of his children. Their decedents would be the people we would want to find in Norway, they would be the our relatives in Norway!!

Carl E. Vangsness' Descendant's

Iver and Unni came to the States with their son, John E. Vangsness in 1854. John was two at the time. Their third son, Carl E., was born in Wisconsin on October 14, 1860.

Here is some information I found about Carl and his family:

From the book - HISTORY OF GOODHUE COUNTY, MN. published in 1909.

Carl E. Vangsness was born in Wisconsin, October 14, 1860, son of Iver and Unni Vangsness, natives of Norway, who came to America in 1854 and located in Wisconsin, where the father engaged in general labor until 1862, when they came to Belle Creek township and purchased 130 acres of wild land on Section 31, which the father broke and cleared, improved the land and built a home and other buildings necessary to carry on successful farming. Here Iver died on May 2, 1905, Unni having passed away in 1868.

He received his education in Belle Creek, and worked on the farm with his father until he was twenty-eight years of age, when he purchased eighty acres of land in Section 29; he also rents 160 acres and follows a general line of farming and stock raising. Mr. Vangsness was married March 2, 1888, to Elizabeth Iverson, daughter of Iver and Berit (Romo) Iverson, natives of Norway. They came to America and located in Wanamingo township, where they have since been engaged in farming. Mr. and Mrs. Vangsness have ten children: Ingmar, who is a student at the State University; Iver, Bella, Henry, Rudolph, George, Ida, Florence, Luella and Clarence. Mr. Vangsness is a Republican in his politics and has been road overseer and director of the school board for several years. He and his family are members of the Norwegian Lutheran church.

Here are some photos that I have.
